Audrey McKenzie- Audrey is a 2017 graduate of Hope College! She graduated with a major in Language Arts Elementary Education with an endorsement in English as a Second Language. At Hope she spent her time working for the admissions office, leading a women's Bible study, tutoring in an after school program, and planning events for students in the education department. She just finished her second year of teaching as a 5th grade teacher at the Santiago Christian School in the Dominican Republic. She enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as traveling, writing, and being outside. Audrey is excited to be back in Michigan for the summer for her seventh year of camp living out and sharing her love for Christ.
Emma Gontjes- Emma attended Dutton Christian Elementary/Middle School, South Christian High School, and is now finishing her freshmen year at Calvin College. She is majoring in Early Childhood Education. She enjoys spending time outside, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Emma is very excited to spend her summer working at Kids Rock Camp and is excited to share her love of Christ with the kids.
Jenny Bonnema- Jenny is a graduate of South Christian High school and attends Calvin College. Jenny will officially complete her degree in both Elementary and Special Education in December of 2017. This past spring semester Jenny student taught in a special education classroom with kindergartener to second graders at Coit Creative Arts Academy. In the fall she will student teach again in a general education fifth grade classroom at WestSide Christian School. She loves spending time with her friends and family, reading, spending time outside, and listening to music. This summer will be her fifth summer as counselor at Kids Rock, and she can’t wait! Jenny is looking forward to sharing her love of Christ with the campers, acting silly, making some awesome crafts, and having a great summer!
Seth Van Engen- Seth is a graduate of South Christian High School and Calvin College. He majored in Elementary Education with a focus in math and science. He just finished his first year teaching 7th grade science at Duncan Lake Middle School. He coaches both football and basketball there. He enjoys singing, sports, and hiking. He is really excited and grateful to be a part of such an amazing Christ centered camp for another year.
Clayton Kruisenga- Clayton is beyond excited to be joining the Kids Rock Summer Camp team for his first time. He is a student at Grand Valley State University studying Elementary Education, and has a huge passion for serving God, playing sports, and working with kids. Clayton was formerly a middle school youth group leader for three years at his home church, and because he has taken some time off from that role, he is thrilled to be able to poor into young kids lives once again. Summer is his favorite time of year, being that it presents so many opportunities for physical activities such as sports, swimming, hiking, fishing, and so much more. Clayton is looking forward to a summer of fun with the kids and other counselors at this camp.
Charles Meyaard- Chaz is a 2017 graduate of Holland Christian. He just finished his sophomore year at Hope College and is seeking a degree in Secondary Education Social Studies along with a minor in Psychology. Chaz was very active in sports throughout high school, participating in football, basketball, and track. In the fall he currently coaches football at Holland Christian. He also enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and listening to music. Chaz’s love for working with kids began from growing up with 10 siblings. This year will be his first year at Kids Rock. He is very excited to begin building relationships with others while being a Christ-like model.
Kendra Walters- Kendra is excited to come back for her second year at Kids Rock! She graduated from Calvin College in 2018 with a degree in Music Education and is currently working at Grandville High School accompanying for their choirs. She loves music, her husband (Jaymes), dogs, Harry Potter, ice cream, and most of all Jesus.
Nicole Van Loon- Nicole is a recent 2018 graduate of Grand Valley State University! She graduated with a major in Education and Social Studies and a minor in Elementary Education. She is currently long term subbing in a 2nd grade classroom in Fruitport Community Schools. She coaches middle school softball at Kent City Community Schools, where she graduated high school from. Nicole loves being with friends, family, spending time outside (especially at the dog park/beach) and being active. She is very excited to spend her summer working at Kids Rock Summer Camp with the campers!
Jaymes Gontjes- Jaymes attend Dutton Christian Schools, South Christian High School, and graduated from Calvin College in 2018. He just completed his first year of teaching 6th grade Social Studies at Cityside Middle School in Zeeland, MI. He enjoys coaching football and track in Zeeland and playing guitar and drums in his spare time. He is excited for his third year at camp to continue building relationships with campers, encouraging people to know Jesus, and having a blast all summer long!
Katie James- Katie is a 2017 graduate from Forest Hills Central High School. She will be entering her junior year at Hope College in the fall, with majors in Social Work and Business. During her free time, she enjoys spending time outside, going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and playing sports. She is excited for the opportunity to build relationships with the kids at camp this summer and to share the love of Jesus with them! She cannot wait for it to start!
Justin Phillips- Justin graduated from Kent City High School in 2013. While there, he played football, basketball, and baseball. After Kent City, Justin continued his football career at Hope College. Justin has continued his passion for football by coaching at Kent City High School. He completed his Secondary Education major in History with a minor in Health this past December, and is currently working as the Alternative Education Teacher at Kent City High School. When he is not doing any of this, it is likely that you will find Justin on the golf course as he loves playing the game. He holds an incredible passion for working with kids, and is very excited for the opportunity to work at Kids Rock!
Carley Van Swol- Carley is a recent graduate from Hope College with Physical Education and Spanish majors and a minor in Health. At Hope, Carley participated in intramural sports, broadcasts the sporting events, as well as is a leader at the Special Ed Ministry at one of the local churches in Holland. Last year she lived in Sevilla Spain for a semester and got the chance to see different parts of the world. She has a big heart for kids, sports, traveling, and Jesus. This is her fourth summer at camp and she’s so excited to build relationships with the kids and have fun!
Kellen Voss- Kellen Voss is an incoming junior at Grand Valley State University, studying multimedia journalism. Kellen worked at Kids Rock for a month last summer, as well as working as a counselor at Hope Summer Science Camps from 2017-2018. Kellen is a fascinating figure at Kids Rock because he is the first former camper to work for the camp, as he attended the camp from 2009-2014. Being a former high school football and basketball player, Kellen is very passionate about sports, hopes to write and/or talk about sports one day, and is very excited to be returning to Kids Rock's Legacy camp once again this year.
Elise Ezinga- Elise is a 2015 Grand Valley State University graduate with bachelor degrees in English and Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. She grew up in the greater Grand Rapids area; attending Moline Christian and South Christian High School. Currently, she teaches 5th grade Language Arts and Social Studies at Pine Street Elementary in Wayland. Some of her passions include baking, leisure bike riding, children's literature, card games, and traveling. During the summer, she plays in a slow-pitch softball league. She is eager to have a summer filled with joy, laughter, and Christ.
Jeremiah Kruithof - Jeremiah graduated from South Christian High School in 2016 and will be starting his senior year at Trinity Christian College this fall. He is majoring in middle grades education with a focus on math, and also is pursuing a special education minor. In his free time, Jeremiah loves to play sports and hang out with his friends. His favorite sports are soccer and baseball, but really any sport is a good one in his mind! Jeremiah cannot wait to come back for his second summer at Kids Rock Camp and is really looking forward to sharing his passion for Jesus with the campers as well!
Mikayla Battjes- Mikayla is a 2016 graduate from South Christian High School. She is finishing up her third year at Calvin College currently pursuing a degree in both special education and elementary education. She enjoys spending her time volunteering as a Young Life leader at Grandville High School and playing tennis with family and friends. She has had experience with kids through babysitting and student aiding experiences. She is passionate about kids, Jesus, and building relationships! She cannot wait for her second summer at Kids Rock!
